Chaque fois qu'on essaie d'introduire un nouveau concept ou de nouvelles habitudes pour am\u00e9liorer certains aspects de notre vie, il est important de bien comprendre ce qui motive nos choix. Un rapide regard sur nos biens mat\u00e9riels nous permet de comprendre le parcours des choses qui meublent notre existence. Dans notre qu\u00eate d'un mode de vie plus durable et plus vert, on se retrouve in\u00e9vitablement confront\u00e9 aux concepts de base des valeurs \u00e9cologiques : \u00e9liminer les articles \u00e0 usage unique, privil\u00e9gier la conservation des ressources, utiliser des \u00e9nergies renouvelables, acheter local, etc. Acheter local ?<\/a> Bien s\u00fbr, pourquoi pas ! Mais pour quelle raison encore ? En quoi l'importation de marchandises pose-t-elle un probl\u00e8me exactement ? Concr\u00e8tement, comment le fait de s'approvisionner sur le march\u00e9 local va-t-il contribuer \u00e0 l'am\u00e9lioration de la sant\u00e9 de notre plan\u00e8te ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commen\u00e7ons par poser un regard sur nos biens mat\u00e9riels et \u00e0 nous int\u00e9resser au parcours des objets qui nous entourent ici m\u00eame, \u00e0 la maison, pas besoin d'aller bien loin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u00e9clencher un processus.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Admettons qu'on ait d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de se faire plaisir et de s'offrir une nouvelle tasse pour commencer la nouvelle ann\u00e9e du bon pied. Les mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res sont donc command\u00e9es aupr\u00e8s des fournisseurs. Elles sont manutentionn\u00e9es, emball\u00e9es et exp\u00e9di\u00e9es vers l'usine de fabrication par divers moyens, avec une empreinte \u00e9cologique de taille, impliquant une consommation d'\u00e9nergie importante. Parmi les ressources n\u00e9cessaires figure l'utilisation d'\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 pour alimenter entre autres les conteneurs d'exp\u00e9dition et les \u00e9quipements de chargement. On peut aussi mentionner l'utilisation de sous-produits p\u00e9troliers \u2013 avec \u00e9missions associ\u00e9es de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre \u2013 pour le transport des mat\u00e9riaux, et bien bien plus encore. Ceci constitue l'\u00e9co-empreinte de transport initiale de notre tasse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ainsi donc, les mat\u00e9riaux de base sont re\u00e7us et pr\u00eats \u00e0 \u00eatre trait\u00e9s par l'usine. L'usine elle-m\u00eame a besoin d'\u00e9nergie pour faire fonctionner ses machines, ses lumi\u00e8res, ses syst\u00e8mes CVC et tout le reste afin de respecter les normes de sant\u00e9 et de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, alors que des milliers d'ouvriers travaillent \u00e0 la cha\u00eene pour satisfaire aux exigences de production. Tout au long du processus, des d\u00e9chets sont g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9s sans rel\u00e2che. Ils n\u00e9cessiteront d'\u00eatre pris en charge par la suite, engendrant une nouvelle fois traitement, emballage et manutention suppl\u00e9mentaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une fois fabriqu\u00e9e, notre tasse est emball\u00e9e et envoy\u00e9e dans un entrep\u00f4t (jusque l\u00e0 toujours situ\u00e9 \u00e0 l'\u00e9tranger) pour y \u00eatre stock\u00e9e. N\u00e9cessitant nombre ressources, \u00e9norm\u00e9ment d'\u00e9nergie, entre autres, pour alimenter lumi\u00e8res, syst\u00e8mes de ventilation, chauffage\/r\u00e9frig\u00e9ration le cas \u00e9ch\u00e9ant, etc. Ceci constitue l'\u00e9co-empreinte d'entreposage initiale de notre tasse. Depuis l'entrep\u00f4t, notre tasse d\u00fbment emball\u00e9e est exp\u00e9di\u00e9e via le r\u00e9seau du distributeur du vendeur, au moyen de modes de transport appropri\u00e9s : transport routier, ferroviaire, a\u00e9rien, maritime, et que sais-je encore (re : \u00e9co-empreinte de transport, prise 2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une fois le port de destination atteint (disons le Port d'Halifax), la tasse attendra dans un entrep\u00f4t du port (re : \u00e9co-empreinte d'entreposage, prise 2) aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de millions d'autres produits \u00e0 exp\u00e9dier au centre de distribution le plus proche de la destination finale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La tasse sera \u00e0 nouveau achemin\u00e9e par le moyen de transport le plus pertinent (Re : \u00e9co-empreinte de transport, prise 3), puis stock\u00e9e au centre de distribution local (infrastructures de Burnside par exemple) (re : \u00e9co-empreinte d'entreposage, prise 3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notre tasse vient juste d'arriver \u00e0 la maison. C'est formidable ! Et quel voyage s'ach\u00e8ve. Quelle longue liste de ressources s'\u00e9vaporant dans les airs pour qu'une tasse entre enfin dans notre foyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le facteur \u00e9conomique.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sa demande en mat\u00e9riaux et en ressources est prodigieuse. Les usines n\u00e9cessitent des quantit\u00e9s d'\u00e9nergie astronomiques pour fonctionner ad\u00e9quatement. Pour \u00eatre rentables et compenser les co\u00fbts associ\u00e9s \u00e0 la production, les articles doivent atteindre un bassin plus large d'acheteurs potentiels. Et un prix abordable est un moyen sens\u00e9 d'y parvenir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L'aspect de la durabilit\u00e9.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Alors, \u00e0 mesure que la production augmente, la qualit\u00e9, elle, va s'amoindrir afin que l'op\u00e9ration reste rentable. R\u00e9sultat des courses : le produit final n'est pas con\u00e7u pour durer. Maintenant, regardons les choses en face. Nos d\u00e9charges regorgent de ces articles d\u00e9fectueux. Certains d'entre eux sont biod\u00e9gradables ou du moins recyclables, la plupart ne le sont pas. On alimente constamment notre probl\u00e8me avec des d\u00e9chets en ravitaillant de plein gr\u00e9 une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de consommation hyperactive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Changer notre perspective.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

De poser un regard honn\u00eate sur nos biens mat\u00e9riels en lisant ces lignes nous fera r\u00e9aliser combien de ces objets on a acquis au fil des ans. Et quel impact on a eu sur notre environnement jusqu'\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent. Cette petite r\u00e8gle pos\u00e9e sur le bureau ? Achet\u00e9e 2 dollars au magasin \u00e0 rabais il y a 3 mois ? Eh bien, les chiffres commencent bien \u00e0 s'estomper, c'est vrai. Et le plastique commence \u00e0 se fissurer un peu\u2026 Elle va probablement se casser dans les prochaines semaines. Mais bon, ce sera facile \u00e0 remplacer, \u00e0 peine 2 dollars\u2026 Tout va bien ? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Et bien non, bien s\u00fbr que non \u00e7a ne va pas. Le co\u00fbt \u00e9cologique de cet objet est infiniment plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 que ce que chacun d'entre nous peut se permettre. Et c'est notre plan\u00e8te qui en paye le prix. Par-dessus tout, on doit r\u00e9aliser que les enjeux sont plus importants que le simple article envoy\u00e9 au rebut. Le probl\u00e8me ne r\u00e9side pas seulement dans le fait de participer \u00e0 la croissance de nos d\u00e9potoirs en y ajoutant notre tasse bris\u00e9e ou notre r\u00e8gle d\u00e9fra\u00eechie. L'enjeu va plus loin. Il s'agit de toutes ces ressources qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9es et qui sont continuellement gaspill\u00e9es dans le processus incessant de fabrication de ces articles que nous jetons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais on a encore le pouvoir d'am\u00e9liorer ce qui vient ensuite, pour s'assurer que ce sera effectu\u00e9 d'une fa\u00e7on plus judicieuse et plus durable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
