Islands to Cottages – Nova Scotia Sustainable Living is thrilled to present you its first edition of Bee·autiful Dartmouth | Abeillons Dartmouth Contest.

What ?

1 seed dispenser + 2 chances to Wow your community = endless support to our pollinators.

Ornate an eco-friendly seed dispenser, share FREE seeds with the community and together let’s Bee·autify Dartmouth and give our pollinators the resources to thrive.

Why ?

We want to give you a chance to bring your community to life by showcasing your talent, your work and your involvement towards a greener future. And we want Dartmouth to be featured in the gastronomic guide for pollinators far and wide.

Who and Where ?

Open to all businesses and public organizations operating in Dartmouth. Members of the public need to have access to your facilities in order to come assess your art and pick up free seeds to grow at home.

How ? The Participants.

That’s easy !

1) Contact us via our Facebook page at IslandsToCottages, or via the Contact Us page on our website at islandstocottages.com to register your business or public organization and receive a 100% locally crafted seed dispenser made of recycled wood.

Deadline for registration is Friday April 7th, 6 pm AST.

2) Ornate your seed dispenser and show us your true colors. Eco-friendly practices shall be observed. We reserve the right to decline an entry if we feel the finishes used may be harmful to the environment.

Deadline for finished work is Monday April 10th, 6 pm AST.

3) We validate your entry on our Facebook page at IslandsToCottages once your work of art is submitted and we provide you with FREE seeds to share in-store in your seed dispenser for the public to pick up.

4) Members of the public can come pick up free seeds in any participating store and appraise your work of art. The list of participating stores will be updated as registrations are validated.

5) Votes from the public are submitted via posts, public or private, on our Facebook page at IslandsToCottages, or via the Contact Us page on our website at islandstocottages.com. No purchase necessary. One entry per person per day. Votes will be updated daily on our Facebook page.

Deadline to vote is Friday April 21th, 6 pm AST.

6) The winner will be announced via our Facebook page on Saturday April 22nd, Earth Day, 10 am AST. The winner will be featured on our website through an interview showcasing their work and philosophy regarding sustainability.

7) Seed dispensers will continue to serve as distribution centers to the public until Friday April 28th. Seed dispensers will then be auctioned with all profits from the auction going to a non-profit Dartmouth organization. More details to come.

Cost ?

Registration is $20, non-refundable. You receive 1 unadorned seed dispenser and FREE seeds to give away to the public.

How ? The Voters.

That’s easy ! No purchase necessary. Pick up your free seeds in-store and give your vote to your favorite artist.

1) Find the list of participating stores on our Facebook page at IslandsToCottages.

2) Come visit participating stores in Dartmouth. Assess their work of art and pick up free seeds to grow at home. The list of participating stores will be updated as their registration is validated.

3) Vote for your preferred seed dispenser via post, public or private, on our Facebook page at IslandsToCottages, or via the Contact Us page on our website at islandstocottages.com. Likes are welcome but do not count as a vote. No purchase necessary. One entry per person per day. Bee jokes are encouraged although do not count for extra. Votes will be updated daily on our Facebook page.

Deadline to vote is Friday April 21st, 6 pm AST. The winning organization will be announced via our facebook page on Saturday April 22nd, Earth Day, 10 am AST

4) Once you vote, your name will be entered for a draw. Voters will have chance to win one of three Sustainable Gift Packs brought to you by Islands to Cottages : (1) Birthday kit; (1) Spa kit; and (1) Essentials kit.

5) The draw will take place on Sunday, April 30th, at 12 pm AST, at our booth in Dartmouth at Alderney Landing Market. Winners will be announced and then posted on our Facebook page.

6) You can continue visiting your favorite businesses to pick up free seeds until Friday April 28th. Seed dispensers will then be auctioned with all profits going to a non-for-profit Dartmouth organization. More details to come.
