Organizing With Built-ins

There is happiness in little things. We can make our everyday life simpler with easy projects and design ideas that help us redefine our space and make it more functional. Organizing with built-ins is a clever way to make the best use of our rooms, no matter their square footage or peculiarities. Let’s set ourselves for success by rethinking our space and bringing loads of storage to make our routine a breeze.

Smart Organizing.

Organizing our home should be on the top priority since it make us more efficient on a day-to-day basis. The result ? We have more free time on our hands once we are done looking for every single item we need to get our day going.

Why not start by cutting down on the amount of things we bring home ? A good honest look around will quickly show what we do need everyday. And what we decided to get on the spur of the moment. Too many things cluttering our rooms make the space harder to navigate. Not only it jumbles our floor space but it takes on our breezing room too. Having less means getting to essentials more quickly and enjoying them more.

We should organize our home to be best extend possible. All while cutting down on the amount of furniture. Contradictory ? Not at all. We need to see the footprint we are allocated from another perspective. Time to think vertical instead of horizontal ! A great way to do so is by starting adding hooks everywhere we can. A staple element that never gets tired…

Building Up.

Adding hooks, yes, but also introducing built-ins. Organizing with built-ins simply makes sense. By adding built-ins wherever possible, the lines of the rooms remain clean. Plus, we get to cut down on the amount of furniture taking up floor space. So we get a more visually open floor plan. And it drastically cuts the cleaning time on a daily basis. Nothing beats that ! We should make sure built-ins are well made and planned with multipurpose in mind. For example, a wall mounted bedside table shall have a shelf underneath to nest our favorite book or other essentials. You thought shelves were just meant to showcase and store ? Well think again !

Benching Needs.

Built-ins of all sorts are useful all through the house. Consider trading some chairs for a wall mounted dining bench at your dinner table. You can accommodate extra seating in a wink without having to drag more chairs from the garage. With a clever hinged lid, they will double as storage space. Hidden storage is precious in any space, with the ability to host a variety of items from cans to blankets to batteries and preserves.

A bench will take much less room around the table to significantly increase our walkable surfaces too. It will clear up the hallways and walkthroughs for better accessibility. We also have a much better access to be able to clean around them instead of having to pull chairs to reach under the table.

Using Staircases.

But let’s not forget about the stairs ! Organizing with built-ins includes making the most of the valuable space under the stairs. Make it beautiful and useful altogether. That quirky space is too often left behind. Guess what ? It really is a treasure for anyone looking a little deeper into it.

A great spot to hide essentials like dust pan and vacuum hanging on the inside wall, it will also host a sizable amount of weather related items for the reality of our Maritime weather. We can set hanging baskets and boxes to hold those hats and mitts. And also the other type of mitts : the baseball ones. Yep. Had to bring it up. The array of baseball gear lining up the entryway… Bats and balls that could otherwise mean clutter… Oops. I did not just say that.

We can simply decide to go for the open concept underneath the stairs. Installing open shelving instead of an enclosed compartment. A great spot for a charging station, which does not need too big of a space. Convenient and accessible. Great location for any sound system as well, why not ? A drop-off for keys and oddities maybe. Even a spot to display special items we can’t seem to set anywhere else. And those will be an eye candy when staged properly.

So, let’s start building up and building-in for a smoother living !
