Our Acknowledgement

A soft grey heart shaped rock is sitting on a pink colored much wider bedrock with branches of tiny greenery all around.

Mi’kma’ki, Our Home On Native Land.

Islands To Cottages acknowledges we are located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people, whose inherent rights were recognized in the Peace and Friendship Treaties that were first signed in 1725.

By acknowledging the Mi’kmaq ancestral territory, we want to honor our shared Treaty relationship and express our gratitude to live and work together in Mi’kma’ki.

Weaving Bridges.

We wish to offer our voice and resources to contribute to build strong and long lasting relationships based on dignity and mutual respect within the many communities of Mi’kma’ki, and to foster a mindful understanding of our incredible diversity of cultures, languages, histories and heritage which enrich our daily lives.

Protecting Mother Earth.

We are committed to promote a true and honest bond with the land we all share, and to encourage our present and future generations to be proud caretakers of our land with deep respect for its guardians of the past.

Our Time To Mend.

We acknowledge we all have to take part in the essential journey of reconciliation so that our children will be wiser and stronger than us, to make our world a better place.

The road to unity is one of learning, understanding and facing realities. It is a road paved with challenges where injustice and inequity need to be addressed so we can work together towards restoring harmony : our pride, our freedom and, ultimately, inner peace.
